The S.A.F.E. Solutions Model was launched in 2003 in response to demand from the child welfare community. At a conference in Toronto, Ontario, sponsored by the Association of Children’s Aid Society of Ontario, members expressed their need for readily accessible programs specifically targeted at youth in conflict with the law.
That became the impetus for designing S.A.F.E. Solutions as an educational model for self-improvement. In 2003 the Model was tested successfully in the community, gained widespread recognition and acquired copyright status.
In 2004 the S.A.F.E. Solutions project was further developed and in 2005 placed online as a computer assisted tool. The following year the S.A.F.E. Solutions eBooklet was published and is currently available through handheld devices such as cellphones and Blackberries at mobipocket.com. The new and updated S.A.F.E. Solutions educational model can be found at www.safesolutions.org.
The adults that live with the participants need to play an active role in the S.A.F.E. Solutions program. Their encouragement and positive feedback are essential to its success.
